Winter Recreation and Activities

Snowmobiling:

Snomobile vacation cabins Looking for snowmobile vacation cabins? Our vacation cabins, north of Steamboat Springs, offer the perfect snowmobiling experience. Never need to worry about enough snow – we average over 300 inches each year. At the Midnight Ranch, you can rent our snowmobile vacation cabins with no need to trailer your snowmobiles to the trail heads. We live at the trail heads! You can leave your trailer at your cabin door head right into the National Forest. Snowmobiling at your fingertips! If you don’t own a snowmobile, rentals are available.

Snowmobiling trails in the National Forest are extensive in North Routt County. There are endless groomed trails, open meadows, forests, mountains, incredible views and the famous Steamboat Springs Champaign powder to enjoy on your snowmobile vacation. Whether you come to our snowmobile vacation cabins with family or friends, snowmobiling can be for all levels of riders, beginner to expert.

“The snowmobiling trails in the Clark area are located on the Routt National Forest, Steamboat Lake State Park, and along Country Road 129. There are 146 miles of beautiful groomed trails in North Routt County and they are groomed twice per week by the Steamboat Lake Snow Club. The club also maintains a non-motorized Nordic Touring Center at Steamboat Lake and the club members ask that you respect the boundaries of the non-motorized area. Some historic trails cross private land so do your homework and “know before you go!” Please be aware that the trail from Steamboat Lake Outfitters to the forest boundary is a private easement open to SLO customers only.”

Cross Country Skiing & Snowshoeing:

Steamboat Springs offers some of the best snow in the Colorado Rockies. Cross country skiing or snow shoeing in snow covered timber or aspen forest is a peaceful, majestic experience.

Cross country ski and snowshoes rentals are available in Steamboat Springs or from local rental shops. Inquire about rental gear when you book your vacation. There are local ranches that offer guided cross country or snowshoe day trips and lessons. There are extensive maps that can guide an advanced back country snowshoe or skier to explore nearby Hahn’s Peak, offering the back country skier fresh powder and amazing vistas.

Whether you snowshoe, cross country, skate ski or back country ski, staying at the Midnight Ranch cabins offers a peaceful alternative to the busy Steamboat ski area. Enjoy they solitude and majesty of the National Forest right from your doorstep.

Winter Ice Fishing:

The Midnight Ranch has its own private, stocked 10 acre lake steps from our cabins. Enjoy ice fishing while staying in one of our 2 rental cabins. The lake is yours to enjoy. Steamboat Lake is also a great place for ice fishing and is only a short distance from the ranch, as is Pearl Lake and Hahn’s Peak Lake. Bring your own fishing gear or inquire about rentals.

The Steamboat Springs area also has some fantastic ice fishing lakes like the Stagecoach State Park. You will need a fishing license, so inquire upon booking your fishing vacation.

Sleigh Rides:

Many local ranches offer dinner sleigh rides. You are closer to the ranches from our cabins than you would be had you been in Steamboat! Many area ranches offer day and night rides. Day rides usually don’t include meals. Imagine gliding through the champagne powder under the stars. Most ranches require booking ahead. So inquire about availability when booking your vacation at Midnight Ranch.
